SORRY

I used to play games with my kiddos when they were young.  Cards, board games and puzzles.  SORRY was and is one of my favorites.  The other day I was playing SORRY with my 6.5 year old grandson.

He's the firstborn of the family and like most firstborn children he's very particular, wants/needs to do everything perfect as far as he's concerned and he has trouble losing.
So this is a good game to teach losing/winning/losing.  The game can turn on a dime (actually, at the pick of a card) and I'm trying to encourage him that it's ok to lose.  It's a difficult lesson.
I was just like him when I was young and I remember how long it took for me to get the point of almost winning/almost losing, winning and losing but enjoying the journey through the game.
It's tough being the first born.
Birth order is weird.

Chess Players

The minute I walked into my fave coffee shop I saw these two guys playing chess. While I was waiting for my drink to be ready I asked them if I could take a pic of them and they readily agreed.
I've never seen them there before but I don't usually go there in the early evening.

I'm grateful for:
seeing friends enjoying each other's company while doing something together that they enjoy

Chess Board

Confession:  I know NOTHING about chess other than that there are some very beautiful chess sets out there in chess-land.  Once upon a time many, many years ago I attempted to learn the game.  After leaning the absolute basics, I never pursued the game at all.

It's just not anything I'm interested in.

But...I am interested in photographing beautiful chess sets.  A friend from church told me she had this set and she was willing to loan it to me for a few days.  It's not over-the-top ornate, but being made out of marble it's very appealing.

The New Chess Set

My friend just received this new chess set and he was setting it up to take some photos of it.  Of course I offered to make a few images of him with the board.

I only had my cell phone with me, but I think it did an admirable job of capturing the board and my friend.
