War Memorial

In downtown Abilene, the courthouse has this beautiful memorial outside the front door.  A soldier and an eagle.  As you walk through the display, you can see the names of the wars that have been fought that Abileneans have been part of.  

I never really examined the memorial so closely before.

Close-Up Architecture

This is a close-up look at a beautiful building in downtown Lima, Peru.  The buildings surrounding the town square are breathtaking.  

Sadly, though, there's much of Lima that is incredibly poor.

How do they reconcile the great disparity?

Train Wheel

There's a small park in downtown Cisco, TX, and there's an old train car that the kids can climb on and get into.  I've taken photos of this train car before, but today I was trying to get something different from my previous images.  This isn't too exciting, but it kind of tells a story.

Another Fire Escape

I've walked past this fire escape many times, but today it finally occurred to me that there's a little enclosure at the bottom, which I've never seen with a fire escape before.

My heart is happy because:

I finally remembered to dress for the weather when I went out looking for photo ops today

The Winning Quilt

Last Sunday, at the Altamont Fairgrounds there was an old car show, at which this beautiful quilt was being raffled.  In the spirit of supporting the fundraising event, and on the off chance I would win, I purchased a ticket.

Well.....I won!

It was hand pieced (sewn on a machine), but the quilting was done with a long-arm sewing machine.  Enlarge the pics so you can see the beautiful details of the stitching.  I'll be displaying it as a wall-hanging once I get the casings sewn on the back and get a classy rod to hang it on.
