Yapping Dawg

I saw this place down a side road outside of Anson, TX.  It's a stand-alone building, apparently selling liquor - beer & wine.  The building is pink, has a small entrance door, a window with protective bars and a list of hours that it's open.
It appears to be abandoned.

Birds on Wires

I made this image a couple of weeks ago with my cell phone, so it isn't great quality.
I just thought it looked interesting with the birds on the wires against a blue sky.
Too bad I didn't have my SLR with me to get a better image.

Abandoned Downtown Business

For as long as I've lived here, this place has looked exactly like this.  Abandoned and nothing has changed one bit.  I don't know what it was when it was an active business.
There is little-to-no foot traffic in this location, but once upon a time there must have been.
Very curious.

Oil Lantern

A friend of mine on the "prepare spectrum" gave me this oil lantern for Christmas.
I've always loved these lanterns and I just love that he thought of this for me.  I got the oil and matches to go with it.  I might just use it some night for a night light while watching TV.  Otherwise, it sits on my mantle offering security in case the electric goes off for some reason.

I watched the inauguration of President Trump and Vice-President Vance this morning with my Republican Women group.  In my entire life I've never watched an inauguration.  This one was great~~a new and exciting chapter in American History.
Praise God!!!

Window Shadows

This is seen inside one of the downtown garages.
I'm always surprised at the images I can find downtown if I'm in the right mood.  I've taken photos in downtown Abilene more times than I can count, but if I look for details I can almost always find something I haven't seen before, or that is a little different than what was there "last" time.

Pink Wall and Gold Doorway

This is a business door located in Tarpon Springs, FL.
I don't know what the business is I just thought the contrast in colors is pretty.

Basement Window

This is one of the windows to the basement window of a public building in town.  I often wonder why people cover over their basement windows but I guess there must be a good reason.

My heart is grateful that:
I had a chance to work at my random pt job today

Lantern

This old fashioned lantern is on the side of a bank building in downtown Abilene, Texas.  I've walked past this building many times, but never thought of photographing the lantern until today.  Duh!!

My heart is grateful that:
My brain occasionally works outside the box

Hallway Decor

One of the buildings I go into frequently has this plant as part of the decor at the end of the hallway.  It looks like it's doing pretty well with the light from the window.  I think it's a pretty new addition.

Lighted Angel

I happened to be in town today right around dusk.  I was attracted to this church because it had colored lights on the steeple.  Once I got to the building, I saw this beautiful lighted angel, on the side of the main doors.  I had my tripod with me so even though it was a slow shutter-speed, it turned out sharp.

My heart is grateful for:
the peaceful and productive day I had today

Christmas Parade

Every year Abilene holds their Christmas Parade the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  This was huge one.  It lasted, from the first entry to the last, about 1 hour and 50 minutes.  It was very mild that night and there were a lot of people still there for the entire parade.

It's brutal taking pics with a real camera in the dark.  After about 7 tries, I put the camera away and just watched the parade. This is the only image I took that was even remotely worth posting.  I always wonder why the event planners think the parade is better in the dark.

My heart is grateful for:
the moderate weather after the brutal summer we had

Retro LampPost

This replica of a retro lamppost is located in a small park in Anson, Texas.  There were about 5-6 of them scattered throughout the park.

Grateful today for:
spending time with a friend finishing a quilt I started about 3 years ago

My Shadow

I was in town today having coffee with a friend.  On my way home I stopped to make some photos of a church and when I looked down I saw my shadow.  I thought it was more interesting than the church, so I experimented with a few different compositions.

It's very difficult to hold the camera and press the shutter button with one hand while trying to strike an interesting pose.  This was the best I could do.   Too bad there weren't two of us.

My heart is grateful today for:
everything getting greener before the heat really sets in for the summer

The Switch Plate

I'm grateful for so many things in my life.  The other night when I was doing some hand-sewing while watching TV it occurred to me that electricity and light is something I'm very happy about.

It would be especially difficult to do needlework of any kind at night.  I know that generations managed just fine with lanterns and gas lamps, but that was their reality and they didn't have any options.
Thankfully, we do.

My heart is happy today for:
electricity and light at the flip of a switch

Church Building Just Before Dusk

I saw this building about ½ hour before sunset and thought the light was so beautiful.

I only had my phone camera with me and although it's fine as a small image, I probably can't enlarge it very much without it looking pixelated.  I need to start carrying my Big-Girl-Camera with me all the time. I did that for a while a few years ago, and more often than not I didn't find anything to photograph while I was out, so I stopped taking it with me.

Maybe I need to rethink that habit.

It's Monday
29/365

Some friends and I have started another blog on Wordpress (expressyourselfwithphotos.wordpress.com)
At the moment there are three of us participating and we each have one day a week when we're supposed to post at least one photo.  Monday is my day, and for the first time since we began, I remembered and actually posted.

I despaired this morning of finding an image, but as I sat in my living room and looked at the windows with the sun shining for the first time in many days, I noticed the shadows and knew I had discovered my image of the day.

The I started playing around with another object and came up with this next image.

It was such a beautiful day outside I finally decided to take a drive and see what I could see.  I didn't expect much since I took the exact same route I've taken so many times before when I've come home with nothing.

But today was a little different.  All the leaves on these particular trees are gone and the sun was low in the sky so the light was beautiful.  There's just something about the bare trees in the Fall...
