Cluster of Silos

Down one of the side streets in Cisco there's a cluster of silos.  It's hard for me to tell if the structures are abandoned or used, but it's easy to see that once upon a time they were active and a vital part of the community.

Buildings on an old Horse Farm

These are some horse buildings on a horse farm that is no longer in business in upstate NY.

The farm is being maintained as a historic site so the buildings are in good condition.

As I got out of my car I glanced across the street and saw this scene.  I thought it really looked interesting, so I grabbed my camera and got an image of it.

Yertle the Turtle

In downtown Abilene, TX there's a park called Everman Park that showcases several statues from 

Dr. Seuss books. (the park is often referred to as the storybook park)

This one is Yertle the Turtle.  It's just so adorable.  There's a sign to the right of the sculpture that has some text from the story.  I LOVE Dr. Seuss stories and I read a lot of them to my children when they were little.  I think they liked them too.

In the background there's some construction happening so, sadly, I couldn't get the statue without the clutter.  It was a beautiful day though, the temp was 85~~and we're only 3 days from Christmas.

Abandoned Bldg in Ranger

I don't know what this building was once upon a time, but now it's just a shell, no walls or floor plan 

inside, just some supporting poles holding up the beams that supported the upper floors.

There are planters along the outside of the lower level, as though someone is trying too make the building/sidewalk look nice.

Two Buildings in Eastland

Today was a field trip to Eastland, TX.  These two buildings are in the downtown area.  The taller one looks to be uninhabited, but would surely make a great apartment building.  I couldn't tell about the other one.

The weather was beautiful today for walking around getting photos,  We stopped in to a great coffee shop for coffees and a snack.  It was a really good day.

Clock Tower

This beautiful clock tower is located on the campus of Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

It has an arch under it that allows students to walk the path from the sidewalk onto the campus between two buildings.  The tower is red brick with a golden dome.

Partial Pyramid in Lima, Peru

In the foreground of the image you can see the remains of a pyramid right in the center of Lima, Peru.  In the background are hi-rise apartment buildings that surround the pyramid on all sides.

The history of the pyramid is very interesting, although I was dealing with a very sore foot and 

was a little distracted by the discomfort of walking so much around and in the structure.

Road Construction

The city council in Abilene decided it was more important to revamp the Main Street than to maintain the roadways throughout town.  Hopefully this will be done soon.

Clean alleyway

While walking around downtown today to find a photo op, I passed through this amazingly clean alleyway and decided to grab a photo of it.  

There's often graffiti on the walls, but seldom is there trash on the ground.

This is a block of abandoned businesses in a small west Texas town.  I wonder if someone is paying taxes on these properties?

Downtown Alley

Seen in downtown Abilene, Texas.  While waiting for a friend to meet me at a coffee shop I wandered around for a few minutes with my camera.  I'm always surprised at how clean the alleys are.

The weather has been much more tolerable the past couple of days.

Guarded Alleyway

There are a couple of alleyways in Abilene that are fenced at each end.  I don't know why~~possibly because they're in between two businesses and the back areas need to be protected???

Vacant hotel and silos

These structures are located in downtown Colorado City, Texas.  The hotel, as well as many other spaces in downtown Colorado City, has been vacant for as long as I've lived in Texas, and in spite of that the structure is very well taken care of.  I can't quite figure that out.  

The silos are located along the edge of the railroad tracks and they look as though they're used regularly.

According to the data from 2021, the population of Colorado City was 4,391.

It is the city seat of Mitchell County.  It is approximately 1 hr 10 minutes north of San Angelo.

Shakelford County Courthouse

This is the courthouse in the town square in Albany, TX, with a gazebo off to the side.  The building is sooooo beautiful.  It was built in 1883, by mostly Scottish stone masons.  They used native limestone which they brought to town from a nearby quarry.

Some Time in Albany

 A friend and I decided to go to downtown Albany to photograph the architecture at dusk.  It was supposed to be a nice day, but as we began the drive the rain started.  Even though we were a little discouraged, we were determined to keep going since we had cancelled the same fieldtrip last week because of the rain.

When we arrived it was still raining but the Egg sheltered us and in just a short while the rain stopped.   There's not much more of a story to this.  We photographed until it was almost dark and we were cold enough that it wasn't enjoyable any more.

I think the rain was a blessing in disguise because of the interesting shiny patterns left on the ground.  

Still some nice color on the trees in the background
