Reflection in Window Glass

One of the older buildings in downtown Abilene has a series of round windows instead of rectangular windows.  As I was looking for some photo ops today I noticed this reflection so I grabbed a shot of it.  The mural itself is really nice.  Too bad there was a vehicle there.

Ivy on a wall

I was walking around downtown again to find some photo ops.  It's a beautiful day, not even a sweater needed.  I've been past this building many times, but today I noticed the ivy growing up the side of the building along the window.   The blue sky and the clouds are reflected in the window.  Just a really pretty composition I think.

My heart is grateful for:

 seeing something pretty in a scene I've passed many times before

The Kids on the Dock

Friends from church hosted a Graham-Cracker-House building party at their home on the lake. Before the event started, the teens were outside on the dock and there was a beautiful sunset.  When I saw the silhouettes of the kids, I couldn't resist getting a photo.

9/365                The Mermaid

So...it's been such a long while since I've posted.  Unbelievably,  I've almost forgotten about my blog.  The days when I posted everyday or even once a week are long gone.  I've been concentrating on Flickr and Fine Art America right now.  Also, I still struggle with what to take photos of.  

Years ago when my friends and I challenged each other to post every day, I forced myself to photograph any ordinary things within my vision. I should probably just do that again instead of waiting for inspiration, which seldom provokes me to photograph these days.  There are about 34 days until the end of the year~~maybe that's what I'll do.  Take a photo of anything, post it and add a little text about why I thought that item was worthy.

But here's today's image.  I took a trip to San Angelo, Texas a few weeks ago.  They have a River Walk and this mermaid statue is one of the destinations along the way.  She intrigues me every time I see her.

Late post for Sunday

Yesterday Jackie and I went to the Foster Botanical Garden. It was one of the first places I went to by myself when I arrived in Hawaii last year. That would have been early Jan. There were almost no flowers, but I managed to get some interesting images of the greenery. I was assured, by several people, that by this time (April), flowers would be blooming at the Botanical Garden, so I happily accompanied Jackie on this jaunt.

Well!

There was one section where there were hybrid orchids and that's pretty much all we saw in the way of flowers. Coming from a climate such as exists in upstate NY where "warm" weather heralds in the buds and blooms of a cacophony of flowers, it still confounds me that in a year-round warm climate, winter is still winter as far as the flowers are concerned.

So we wandered around the botanical garden viewing the lush foliage (it has rained a lot this winter--have I mentioned that before?), hoping to see an occasional bloom, and, yes, once again, getting rained on.

It was a struggle for me to get interested enough to take photos. I appreciate beautiful landscaping, but could really care less about names. It was worth the the small entry fee (thank goodness for kama 'aina discounts) and the effort to get there, but unless someone could guarantee that I would be engulfed by a sensory overload of blooming flowers, I probably won't go there again. I would, however, recommend it to any of my friends who have a propensity toward horticulture.

It was a nice way to spend a few hours on a cool afternoon with a good friend. Below are a few of the images from the hybrid orchid garden.

While waiting for the wind to die down to photograph a flower, I saw this reflection ball. The wind finally died down and I took the shot. It was a bust!

The tree in the following image is called The Cannon Ball Tree--obviously not the technical name. But it's very interesting looking, and is nothing like anything else I've ever seen.
