Circular Steps

This beautiful set of steps leads to a red door of a Real Estate Office not too far from my house.  It's a beautiful old building.  The steps are unique for the area.

Downtown Church

I had my wide angle lens on the camera and got this image of this downtown church.  No indication about what kind of church it is, but the street view is beautiful.

First United Methodist Church

This beautiful structure is located in Ranger, Texas but seems to be currently abandoned.  There is a For Sale sign (which I removed) and all the doors and windows are locked and shuttered.

The building was erected in 1920.

I couldn't find out any other information about it.

Abandoned Bank?

This structure looks like it must have been a bank years ago.  

Merkel is a contradiction.  

The 2020 census has the population listed as 2,471. The town is part of the metropolitan Abilene area and it's approximately 19 miles from Abilene. 

There are a lot of vacant/empty buildings but as I walked around the town this afternoon I saw some revitalized buildings that seem to be part of upgrading the small town.

Anson City Hall

This beautiful structure is the Anson City Hall and it sits right in the middle of the Main Street.  Anson was once called Jones City but in 1882 the name was changed to Anson in honor of Anson Jones who was the last president of the Republic of Texas.

Home for Children

This beautiful building is the Hendrick Home for Children in Abilene, Texas.  You can google it to find out about its services to children and families in need.

White Home

This structure is referred to as the White House by the locals.  I've been here for 4.5 years and this is what it's looked like the entire time.  Rumor has it that a husband had this built for his wife, but they never lived there.  I don't know what the rest of the rumor is, I don't know why it hasn't been inhabited. Seems a shame though.

It's a bit more house than I'd want, but if I liked entertaining this would probably be just the place to do it.

A House Cafe

A couple of friends of mine went to this house-cafe last week and told me about it.  Allegedly they're hiring and I need a job.  They're only open for lunch, so it would be a perfect place to work.

Taylor County Courthouse

A family at church was finally able to finalize an adoption that seemed to take forever to complete and some of us from church were at the ceremony to help them celebrate.  

Most of us went out for ice cream afterwards and we had a great time visiting and enjoying the kids.

First Baptist Church

I love the architecture of old churches.  Usually the columns are separate from the building, but these columns seem to be part of the building.  Still beautiful.  

I was using my wide-angle lens and was only about 2 feet away from the building while taking this shot.  So fun.

getting the good news that my baby-boy (now 35) and his wife are expecting their first child in early December

Abilene Christian University Admin Building

I didn't really intend to photograph this building at the University, but my GPS took me past it, so I parked and got a few shots.  It's quite an impressive structure and I love the columns.  

There weren't too many students walking around this area, so it was easy to get this image without the distraction of the students.  Or...who knows, maybe some students in the pic would have enhanced it.

The building was erected in 1929 and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

I finally got the chance to get into Honolulu to photograph some architecture.  This first photo is of the building that is used for police headquarters on Hawaii Five-O.  It isn't really police headquarters, but it is a court building and it's beautiful both outside and inside.

In the same general area as the above building is a Mission Museum with a small cemetery.  

All three of these images were put through photomatix.

It was a beautiful day and the "icing on the cake" was that there was a hot dog vendor selling Sabrett's hot dogs at lunch time.  Yum!
