Tree Trunk and Hydrant

One of my photo prompts was Lone Tree.  While I was looking around for such an object, I saw this tree with the fire hydrant in the background.
I just thought the composition was interesting and there are times when I get desperate for an image of some kind.  I like the little touch of orange color in the background.

Lighted Snowflake

So...a couple of days ago I posted an image of this snowflake, but it was during daylight and naturally the lights weren't on and you could see the building in the background.   I mentioned that I hardly ever go downtown after dark, but today I was inspired to get outside since it was an unseasonable 75 degrees and sunny.
I waited until it was almost dusk and headed to town with the intention of getting this snowflake with the lights on. I'm glad I did.
There were a lot of families wandering around the park getting photos of their kiddos with the storybook statues and the Christmas decorations.  It was a good day to be out and about.

Frosty and His Family

I went to town today just before dusk hoping to find some Christmas photo ops and I saw this fun display of Frosty and his family in one of the parks.  Many of the trees were wrapped with colored lights.

Today I retrieved two quilts that were recently finished from the quilter so now I have to put the binding on them.  One is for my granddaughter who will be two this spring and the other is an oversized lap quilt for me.  I'll be happy when they're finished.

Words on a Wall

This is a sign inside one of the downtown parking garages.  The entire message is "Parking.  Violators will be Towed"
The garage was partially remodeled a couple of years ago but some of the walls were left like this.

Goldilocks & the Three Bears

Abilene, Texas is known as the Storybook Capital of America.  The town has the largest collection of Storybook Sculptures in America.  There are two different parks in town containing sculptures and descriptions.

This one is Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  (Goldilocks actually has two legs, the second leg just doesn't show in this image)

American Sign Language

On my way home today I stopped at one of the local parks to find a photo opportunity.  It's been raining for the past 2.5 days (thank God) but this afternoon the sun came out and it warmed up enough to entice me into this playground.

The equipments seems to be fairly new and as I walked around I saw this Sign Language board.  How awesome is it!!!  What a great leaning opportunity not only for the kiddos but for the parents/adults.
Kudos to whomever designed this playground.

My heart is thankful for:
2.5 days of badly needed rain

In the Great Outdoors

My church meets in an elementary cafeteria normally. Last week, pastor announced that we would be meeting in a park this week, due to the fact that the school had an event scheduled in the cafeteria this Sunday, so we were preempted.

So today we gathered in this park. Not a lot of trees, but fortunately it wasn't extremely hot, so it was tolerable. There were a few times, however, when we thought we'd swept away by the wind. But all in all, it was a pretty neat experience, if not a lot of work to get set up.

Last night I went to a Scottish Music concert. This lady, Coreyanne, plays the bagpipes with a military group. Before the actual concert began, three local groups performed: the bagpipers, a Scottish dance group, and an Irish band. It was just too wonderful!!!

Then this morning, Coreyanne played the flute for the hymns. She not only has this musical talent that she uses to bless people, but she has 4 children, 2 dogs, 1 military husband (who by the way was away this weekend), she bakes her own bread (after she grinds the wheat flour--even if it is with an electric grinder), she's involved with Right to Life, she homeschools her oldest child and tonight at Bible Study she was organizing people to provide meals for one of the other families that has just had their third baby. Whew!

Pastor had an article printed in yesterday's newspaper, and apparently he and this guy were having a chuckle over something concerning the article. The article paid off, we had a guest family that came because of reading what Doug had to say. God at work.

John lives right at the far end of the park, and he was busy showing one of the newer members where his house is.
