Broken Window

One of the large buildings in Cisco, TX is abandoned.  Many of the windows are broken.  This one is on the ground level and has blue tape covering the broken pane so no one gets cut if they touch it.  The building is about 5 stories high and it's a wonder that it's been abandoned since I arrived in TX seven years ago.  It's just going to wrack & ruin, which is very sad.

Abandoned bldg in Baird

I've had a cold for the past 4 days and it's wiped me out.  No energy so I'm behind posting pics.  I'll try to catch up before the end of the month.
Today the weather was beautiful, I think the high was 70, so I went for a drive.  I wound up in Baird and was walking down some of the side streets when I came upon this abandoned bldg.  I have no idea what the building was originally used for, but there it sits, empty.

Another abandoned building in Ranger, Texas.  The sign in the window says "Condemned".
This structure sits on a corner in downtown.

Reflection in Window Glass

One of the older buildings in downtown Abilene has a series of round windows instead of rectangular windows.  As I was looking for some photo ops today I noticed this reflection so I grabbed a shot of it.  The mural itself is really nice.  Too bad there was a vehicle there.

Anson City Hall

This beautiful structure is the Anson City Hall and it sits right in the middle of the Main Street.  Anson was once called Jones City but in 1882 the name was changed to Anson in honor of Anson Jones who was the last president of the Republic of Texas.

Water District Building

It was late in the afternoon when I got this image, so the tree is partially sun-lit and partially in shadow.

Porch on Building

Yesterday I had the chance to take a field trip to Weatherford, Texas with a friend.
It was so exciting to get out of the house.  About 10 days ago I somehow pulled a muscle in my foot and it's very, very painful and very difficult to walk.  But yesterday I just persevered through the pain as we went to another town to get some new images.

This building is part of the campus of the Pythian Home for Children in Weatherford.  As we entered the property we met one of the workers who wound up giving us a personal tour of the building.  He's and another employee are in the process of decorating the home for Christmas.
There are currently 15 children in residence right now.
This Children's Home was part of the movie
"12 Mighty Orphans".
I've never heard of it, but I did some research and it is a movie based on a book. Now I want to read the book AND see the movie.

Apartment Building

This building in downtown Abilene was once a motel, but it's now an apartment building. There's a beautiful lobby and the lower level has public shops.

Fire Escape

An apartment building on the main street of  downtown Cisco, TX. On the back side of the building is this huge, easily navigated fire escape.

Downtown Alley

Seen in downtown Abilene, Texas.  While waiting for a friend to meet me at a coffee shop I wandered around for a few minutes with my camera.  I'm always surprised at how clean the alleys are.
The weather has been much more tolerable the past couple of days.

Downtown Building

It's been averaging between 102-105 degrees here lately, way too hot to go outside to make images.  But now I'm way far behind my photo-a-day and probably won't be able to catch up by the end of the year.
So I decided to rework an image from my files.
This is one of the buildings in town.  I think it's a bank on the ground floor, but I don't have any idea what the upper levels are.

The Whooten

Once upon a time this was a motel.  Now it's an apartment building.  It's one of the tallest buildings in town and it's pretty beautiful.

Bell Plain College

I googled small towns in the area this morning.  I found one called Bell Plain.  There were a few photos, and it isn't too far from Abilene, so after the grandkids had their lesson, I took the drive.

My GPS led me to a very out of the way road~~I actually thought I might start hearing banjoes, but that didn't happen.  My destination was a curve in a dirt road that had three stone markers about the town and college that used to be there.  Just a little further down the road was the ruin of Bell Plain College.  Sadly I couldn't get closer because of the barbed wire fence along the road.

Urban House

I met my daughter at the location for the grandkid's lesson today but I got there early so I grabbed my camera and walked a block or two down the street.  I saw this sweet house. I couldn't resist taking a photo of it.  It looks so comfortable and homey.

Alleyway Fire Escape

I'm not sure what this building is but the fire escape is an easy one for egress in the alleyway.  Usually there isn't any trash in the alleys in Abilene, but there's a little in this one under the steps.  It will probably be cleaned in the near future.

Guarded Alleyway

There are a couple of alleyways in Abilene that are fenced at each end.  I don't know why~~possibly because they're in between two businesses and the back areas need to be protected???

I'm grateful that:
a friend was able to help me move some of my belongings into my new living space

Window and shadows

This window is on a building that's an event venue that's really popular for wedding receptions and other big event receptions.

My heart is grateful that:
there is plenty of food in my fridge and pantry

Basement Window

This is one of the windows to the basement window of a public building in town.  I often wonder why people cover over their basement windows but I guess there must be a good reason.

My heart is grateful that:
I had a chance to work at my random pt job today
