Defunct Phone Booth

This phone booth has been at the boat launch for years.  One year there was a lot of weeds and flowers growing on it, but this year, not so much.  I can't believe the booth is still there, but it's a reminder of days gone by.

Small Sandy Island

The Great Sacandaga Lake is dotted with islands of various sizes, and this small sandy lake seems to attract folks who like the isolation of it.

Wooden Flag on Fence

I made this image a while ago as I was driving down a country road.  I love the color aqua and it was the fence that first caught my eye, then I noticed the weathered wooden flag and thought the two objects made a great image.

Lake Path

It was a beautiful day today, temp was 70, just a little warmer than usual in December in Texas.
There's a lake near where I live called Kirby Lake.  A lot a people fish there.  This is a path at one end of the lake that curls around the upper part of the shore.  It's closed to traffic, but not to foot-traffic.
It's almost Christmas so the grasses are brown.  The sky was really blue, but doesn't look like it in the photo.

Backyard Pool

The Tiny Wedding venue is sometimes in the backyard of the people who run the business.  It was my first time being there~~oh, to have a pool like this...

Bringing the Coffee

There's one overhead bridge in Abilene.  I'm hardly ever downtown during business hours, but today I was.  There were a lot of people crossing the bridge so I took my time and just waited.  I got some good shots, but I like this one.  Bringing the Coffee.

Horse Sculpture

There's a park in Lampasas, TX that contains a large variety of sculptures, some of which are for sale.  This one was created by Carolann Haggard and is made of Marble Mosaic and Fiberglass.

Indian and War Hawk

This sculpture, Sacred Wind, of an Indian and a War Hawk is located on the campus of McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.  In 2011 the War Hawk became the new mascot of the school.
The hawk resting on the Indian's shoulder shows the cooperative relationship between the plains Indians and the hawk that represents the wind.

Building and Sign

I found a place in downtown Abilene where I haven't been before.  The sign looks like it belonged, once upon a time, to a motel.  The words on the building, which I've removed, indicate that it was an
electric company at one time.  Maybe it was a motel before that, who knows.

Businessman on Overpass

It was another beautiful day~~up to 55 degrees.  I went to the Y again this morning and was exhausted when I got home.  I thought I'd just hang out in the house, but after resting I decided I needed to get out and enjoy the weather.
I went to town, yet again.  As I walked past this overpass that goes from one office building to another across a street, I saw this man walking and quickly composed to get this image.
Not the best image, but I like it.

Country Home

The weather was pretty nice today and I was tired of just sitting in the house, so I finally forced myself to go out for a ride, hoping against hope that I'd see something to photograph.
I thought this was such a pretty scene.  I always wonder what people do to earn enough money to live in homes like these????

Looking Up

I made this image a long time ago but can't remember if I posted it.  I was walking around downtown this afternoon and decided to make another image of it.  There's just something I love about this perspective of looking up from the cellar stairs of this business.

White Birch

At a pond located at a tourist stop in Fairbanks these birch are clustered on the opposite bank.
I just thought it was an interesting composition.

Quilt Square on Barn

There is a tourist area with walking trials on the edge of Fairbanks, Ak.  I went there this morning with my dil and saw this incredible reminder of the area I lived in most of my life.
Where I used to live, many people would pay for someone to design a wooden quilt square
and they'd put it on their barn or their house.  There was a map of the locations
for all the squares, so it could be a day-long trip to follow the trail and see all the squares.
This is the only one I've seen here, but I love it.

My heart is happy that:
I had the chance to spend some outdoor time with my dil today.

Unknown First Family

A stunning statue of an Alaskan family seen in the Golden Heart Plaza in downtown Fairbanks, Alaska, sitting atop a fountain.
The park is situated alongside the Chena River and is host to many outdoor activities throughout the year.

Walking Bridge

This is the walking bridge that crosses over the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks, AK.
Once on the bridge the view from either side is spectacular.
Everything is green and the river weaves itself through the town.

My heart is grateful for:
beautiful scenery

When I visited a friend in FL, we drove to this town.  I think this is such a neat looking building.

Deconstructing McDonald's

There's a McDonald's close to me, across the road from where I was having my car serviced the other day.  I was out walking with my camera and it finally occurred to me that I should take a photo of the deconstruction of McDonald's.

I thought it would just be remodeled, but it looks like they're going to rebuild it entirely.  Should be interesting when it 's finished.

My heart is grateful that:
my move is over and I'm pretty much settled in

Looking up from the basement

It was such a beautiful day today.  I sat in the house long enough then I had to get out and enjoy the mild temperatures.  I despaired of getting any new images, but I surprised myself and I managed to get quite a few, although none of them are world class or startling good.  They're just images to fill in all the days I've fallen behind in my photo-a-day project.

My heart is grateful that:
the weather was so beautiful today

I had to get up a little earlier than usual this morning and when I looked out the patio door, I saw the lights on the deck next door.  The sky was just getting light but I wondered why the deck light was on in the next yard.  I'll probably never know, but I thought it looked interesting.

My heart is grateful that:
I was able to take great cupcakes to share with my fellow early-voting-poll-workers today
