This interesting building houses the Ranger, Texas City Hall and Police Station.  It sits on a corner in the downtown area.

Wooden Flag on a Fence

I saw this wooden flag on a fence as I was driving down a side road somewhere outside Abilene, Texas.

Silhouettes of WWII women pilots

There's a museum in Sweetwater, TX dedicated to memorializing the first women who were pilots in WWII.  Those women were part of the WASPs~~Women Airforce Service Pilots.
Thousands of women applied to be part of this group, but only a little more than 1,000 were accepted into the group.  They flew every type of mission during the war that they men flew except for combat.
They were highly trained pilots.  38 of those women pilots died during the days of combat.

American Flag on Shed

I've seen this painted flag several times but I finally decided to walk near it and make an image of it.

American Flag on fence.

I might have already posted this image a long while back, I can't remember.  I saw it as I was looking through my files and for some reason I really like it.  A few days after I made this image, I was walking around the same area and the flag was gone, sad face.

My heart is grateful:
that I live in America where we're still free

Six White Horses

Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX has a club (if that's what it's called) whose members care for and ride six white horses in parades, rodeos and other community activities both local and in towns around Abilene.  From the little I've heard about this group, there are about 20 horses that are rotated for the different rides and the group of girls in the club also rotate as the riders.

They are iconic for the local parades.
This parade is the kick-off event for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo that began this week.

I'm grateful for:

Flags

At a football game, this would be called a "half-time" show, but I don't know what they call it at a rodeo.  In between events, these girls performed a synchronized riding even that was pretty impressive.

Today my heart is grateful for:
good coffee

American Sign Language

On my way home today I stopped at one of the local parks to find a photo opportunity.  It's been raining for the past 2.5 days (thank God) but this afternoon the sun came out and it warmed up enough to entice me into this playground.

The equipments seems to be fairly new and as I walked around I saw this Sign Language board.  How awesome is it!!!  What a great leaning opportunity not only for the kiddos but for the parents/adults.
Kudos to whomever designed this playground.

My heart is thankful for:
2.5 days of badly needed rain
