Jumbo Jenga

Several months ago I posted another image of this jumbo benga that's located in a play area in downtown Abilene, TX.  The location used to be a restaurant with an outdoor eating area that now has several games for people to interact with.
This time I passed this place, it was all in shade which made for a better image.

Chain and Lock

This chain and lock is on some heavy particle board that covers the glass windows that used to be part of a bakery in downtown Abilene, TX.  Right now the building seems abandoned, but it's apparently taken care of by being covered over with the wooden boards.

Downtown Plant Decor

Downtown Abilene has been revitalized.  There's a lot of decor around.  This plant is just one of several in a row surrounded by rocks.  It's really a beautiful sight.

Cold Coffee

When I was little and didn't drink coffee, my father would drink iced coffee in the summer.  I never tasted it~~I don't think he put any sweetener in his drink.

As I got older and started drinking coffee in college and after that as an adult, I tried this cold coffee from a shop that's very popular in eastern upstate NY.  I drink hot coffee sometimes, but my drink of choice is this iced coffee.  When I was back in upstate NY a few weeks ago, I treated myself to this drink because they don't make them here in Texas, sad to say.
I surely do miss those drinks!!!

Wall Decor

In one of the places I visited today, this wall decor just caught my eye.  I love the color and the simplicity of it.

Photos

When I was still living in upstate NY, some friends and I would take a fieldtrip once a week to a town.  We each had a list of photos to take. Once we got there, we would separate for about an hour to get the photos on the list, then meet up for lunch and discussion about the images we got.

It was a lot of fun seeing what we each got for the same prompt.

Before I moved there was going to be an art show, so I framed some of my images and left them with one of my friends.  She was kind enough to keep them all these years and when I saw her recently she showed me the pics.  There were originally 9 of them, but I only wanted 6.

Here they are.  They're on the wall in my dining area.  Three are from upstate NY and three are from where I live now.

When/if I move, I'll have a lot of careful packing to do.

Tall, skinny bookcase

My parents had this bookcase in their place before they both passed.  I always loved it so, in spite of the sadness of them being gone, I was happy to get it.

I have way to many books right now because I belong to a bookgroup that meets once a month and many of the books were obtained through used book sites and they only cost a few dollars.  I don't purchase every book we read, just the ones I think I'll want to keep.  Sadly, I keep too many of them, but I love to read and I often read a favorite book several times.
I need to STOP buying books.  There is, after all, a library in town.  We'll see how that goes.

Extra Bedroom

I live in an apartment that has 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms.  I could have chosen an apartment with one bedroom/bathroom, but I like the extra space.
My town is building an AI center and there are sooooo many extra people here doing the building and the work, ugh.  Apartment prices have gone up (because people are greedy) and so have trailer park sites and the cost of homes has gone up.
Last week I found out that I can have a roommate who is working for one of the hospitals in town.  She'll be here for the week, but only for 4 nights because she's going home to her family in another town each weekend.  She'll get the other bedroom/bathroom and I'll get help with the rent.
I hope this works out.

Throw Pillows

Several years ago, my friend had these pillows made for her living room by someone.  When I was visiting her recently, she asked me about them and then she put them all on the couch and I took a photo of them.
I think they're so pretty~~green is one of my fave colors and I love the brown couch.
We finally remembered who made them.

Wooden Quilt Square

A painted quilt square is located on a building in upstate NY.

Window Grafitti

I was in town this afternoon and one of the vacant buildings has large windows.  One of the windows had this graffiti painted on it.
Abilene is know as the Storybook Capital of the United States, so they have a lot of Winnie the Pooh graphics scattered around as statues and graffiti.

Items in a Box

Several years ago I became interested in this concept of putting items in these boxes because I wanted to do my grand kids in the boxes.  I practiced with these still life items before I photographed the kids.
I found this image in my files.  (the kiddos in the boxes came out really good)
I didn't do kids in a box this year~~my daughter just had a baby late in the year and the weather didn't cooperate much.  Hopefully I'll be able to do a photo in the spring.

167/365
Two Painted Faces

There's a fairly new shopping center on the other side of Abilene and in the parking area are several places where the trash is picked up by trucks.  The trash receptacles are surrounded on three sides with stone walls that are painted so they become part of the decor.  This is one of the walls.
What a great idea to decorate the trash areas like this.

166/365
Grandma and baby

My daughter is crazy about the little one.

165/365
My great-granddaughter with her grandpa

The little one made the rounds with the adults she knew while we were on the boat.

164/365
Granddaughter and Great-granddaughter

We went to the lake today.  It was overcast and just the right temperature for a ride on the boat.
The little one was getting tired so she was snuggling with her mom.
She just turned one last week. She's adorable but I haven't seen her enough for her to be used to me yet.

Two Rivers

These two river converge at this spot.  In the lower left corner there's a dock for loading boats into the river and a picnic area.

This beautiful Spanish Church is located on one of the side streets in Amsterdam, NY.

Defunct Phone Booth

This phone booth has been at the boat launch for years.  One year there was a lot of weeds and flowers growing on it, but this year, not so much.  I can't believe the booth is still there, but it's a reminder of days gone by.

Quilt Square

There's a trail of quilt squares  on various buildings in this upstate NY area.  I'm not sure where you can get the map, but there's one available for whomever wants one.
I passed a building with this square on it today.  The squares are created by a person when someone contacts them and says they want one.  There's a charge, but I don't know what it is.
The squares are usually high on the building over the entrance door and each one is indicative of the business which is contained in the building.  Some private homes have these on their buildings as well, and it's really fun to locate them and see what they are.

Last 5-10-25 Cent Store

This store in Northville used to be a Woolworths.  When I was a kid there were Woolworth stores all over the east~~maybe in other parts of the country too, I'm not sure.
When I was a senior in high school, my first job was at a Woolworths which was within walking distance of my home in the Bronx.  Minimum wage was $1.25/hour.  I thought I was rich when I got my check.
This store boasts that it's the last 5-10-25 cent store in the country and it may well be.  It does good business and it's a destination spot for people who visit upstate NY.

Beautiful Home

This beautiful structure is on the corner of a street in Northville, NY.  There are some really gorgeous homes in that little rural town.

Yankee Hill Lock

This is the remnant of the Yankee Hill Lock when goods were moved from the east side of NY to the west side by waterway.  To the left of the image is the Mohawk River.
This is a destination spot with the original store in between the lock and the river (not seen).  During the summer there are concerts held in front of the store.  There are also picnic tables and grills scattered around for people to have picnics and meetings.

Happy Birthday

From left to right:  mama, one-year-old, grandpa and grandpa's mom.
It didn't rain until after the party was over.

155/365
Great-Grand Baby

This is my first great-grand baby.  She's just turned one.
She's adorable and she's very expressive. She's not used to me yet, and I probably won't see her again for another year, but that's what happens when you live across the country.

Farm near the lake

This farm is near the shore of the Great Sacandaga Lake in upstate NY.  Below it, nearer the water line, is a beautiful house~~maybe where the farm owners live.
This is such a serene image!!

153/365
Small Sandy Island

The Great Sacandaga Lake is dotted with islands of various sizes, and this small sandy lake seems to attract folks who like the isolation of it.

152/365
Underside of Bridge

This bridge goes across the Mohawk River from the south side of Amserterdam, to the north side.  There's a walkway that goes under the bridge also from the north to south.
In the summer there's a concert series once a month on the north side that's usually very well attended.

Beautiful Home at Lakeside

This beautiful home is sitting on the shore of the Great Sacandaga Lake on a lovely early summer day.

Some Pretty Cups

I was in a discount store and saw these pretty cups on a shelf.
I use one cup and one travel mug, so there's no point in purchasing any more, I just thought these
were pretty so I grabbed a photo of them with my phone.

149/365
New Sign

Some folks I know are getting ready to open a new airbnb.  This is the sign they had designed for the address of the place in the Adirondack Mts.  This side has a moose and the other side has a mountain.
The bnb is located in a perfect place to visit many tourist places, or to just rest and relax.

Along the Mohawk River

Just a beautiful scene with the trees and grass in bloom and the blue sky in the background.

147/365
Aqua Artwork

The bridge going from the north side of town over the river to the south side of town has some beautiful artwork displayed.  This is one of my favorites.  I don't usually like abstract art, but I certainly like this one.

146/365
Mosaic Artwork

There's a park I went to today and I saw this beautiful mosaic artwork on this wall.

145/365
New Boardwalk

I'm visiting a place that has added a new board walk since the last time I was here.  It runs along a river, not a beach (sadly), but it's very nice and I hope the folks who live here take good care of it.

Fresh Painted Coca-Cola sign

This bright coca-cola sign seems to be freshly painted and is on the side of a building in central Texas.

7 UP sign

This graphic for 7 UP is on the side of an abandoned building in a central Texas town.

Abandoned White House on Road

This White House is alone the Main Street entering a small town in central Texas.  It's been vacant for a long time.

141/365
Old Army Jeep

There's a military museum in Abilene, TX and in the back alley they have some vehicles behind chain link fences.  This is one of the military jeeps in that area.

140/365
Corner Windows

This is another abandoned structure in downtown Cisco, TX.  It's hard to tell what it might have been in its glory days.

139/365
Abandoned Railway Station

This old railway station is down one of the side streets in Cisco, TX.  The front part, where the door is, appears to be the entrance where people could purchase tickets and wait for the train.  The rear of the building must have been where they loaded and unloaded freight.

138/365
Another View of abandoned bldg

This is another view of the previous abandoned building where you can see a broken window pane and part of the fire escape against a blue, late spring day.

137/365
Abandoned Corner Building

This building on main street sits on a corner in Cisco, TX.  It's been abandoned for many years.  Some of the windows are broken, there are curtains in some of the upstairs windows and the main floor is basically one open space.
The fire escape looks to be in good condition, but who knows.
I just always wonder if someone is paying taxes on this structure and why they would let it go to wrack and ruin like this.

136/365
Cluster of Silos

Down one of the side streets in Cisco there's a cluster of silos.  It's hard for me to tell if the structures are abandoned or used, but it's easy to see that once upon a time they were active and a vital part of the community.

135/365
Broken Window

One of the large buildings in Cisco, TX is abandoned.  Many of the windows are broken.  This one is on the ground level and has blue tape covering the broken pane so no one gets cut if they touch it.  The building is about 5 stories high and it's a wonder that it's been abandoned since I arrived in TX seven years ago.  It's just going to wrack & ruin, which is very sad.

134/365
Coca-Cola sign

This beautiful red and white wall art is on one of the buildings in an alleyway in Cisco, TX.
It says "Relieves Fatigue" at the bottom, with a 5 cent price.
I don't remember it being 5 cents, but I do remember it being 15 cents.  I drink Pepsi.

133/365
Boarded Windows

Walking around Cisco, TX, I saw the building down a side street.  It was abandoned and it had these boards on the windows and doors that I thought were interesting.

132/365
Rain in the Parking Lot

It seems like we're getting more rain here in Texas this year that in the previous years.  I'm so, so, so happy about it.  It was raining petting hard the other day, so I decided to grab a pic.  Not too exciting, but I'm happy about the rain.
