Yarn Design

I went to my photo meeting tonight at the Art Center in town.  The back hall has been spiffed up a little and this display of yarn on string is pretty new since I was there last.
There are instructions as to how to attach the thread~~probably unnecessary, but people seem to be very challenged these days~~but look how many yarns there are and how pretty the colors are.
I don't know if it's supposed to mean something, but it looks like a piece of artwork.  Too bad it's not in the main part of the art venue so all visitors can see it.

Corks Behind Glass

This random display of corks is part of the front door decor of an Italian Restaurant in downtown Abilene, Texas.  The glass is an insert in the wall and the corks fill the space behind the glass.

Random Blue on Blue

I was waiting for a friend at my favorite coffee shop.  The weather was gorgeous today, so I was sitting at a seat outside.  While waiting I decided to make a photo of the chair I was sitting in.  It's this random blue design that works as a great background for text or other images.
Who knew a chair could be so creative.
It's pretty amazing what kind of images I can find when I'm desperate.

Quilt

When each of my younger grandchildren have turned 2, I made them a quilt for their single bed.  Each one is a different pattern.  This one was kind of fun.
It was originally a paper-piecing quilt but because I didn't have the paper, nor the actual pattern, I just eyeballed the pieces and the angles I used to put it together.
This youngest of my daughter's children won't be 2 until June, but all I have left is to put the binding on it, and I'll probably finish that in the next couple of weeks, depending on my enthusiasm level.
Of course, now my son has a baby boy who will be 2 in June 2026, so I'll shortly need to find a pattern and fabric for that one.  And then there's my granddaughter whose first baby will arrive this coming June.  I'll probably make that quilt early because, you know, two years is a long time for someone who's my age.  I may not be here by then but I want her (she already knows it's a girl) to have a quilt too.

Random Luggage

I was in the Albany, NY airport walking around while waiting for my flight the other day.  They always have the most interesting displays along the hallways.  I neglected to get the low-down on this display concerning the artist, but I love the display. (there are 3-4 other configurations of random luggage, and the open pieces at the top are filled with greenery)

Graffiti

The topic for my photo group competition last week was graffiti.  Somehow I managed to miss this wall in downtown Abilene.  I found plenty of murals. Murals didn't count for the competition.
I guess I just didn't look hard enough.

Farmer's Market

Every Wed evening and Sat morning throughout the summer, there's a Farmer's Market.  These are some random people walking around.  It was a beautiful day. We spent about an hour checking out all the booths.
There were some photographers there selling their images.  Some were beautiful, some were average. I often wonder how much stock the sellers much have to do the Farmer's Market circuit~~and where do they store it all after the season?

My heart is grateful that:
my grand baby had a good report from his visit with the midwife

Abstract Sculpture on Alaska University Fairbanks

While I was waiting for some friends so we could attend a musical concert their children were part of, I wandered around the Alaska campus for a few minutes.
This sculpture is in front of the library building.  I didn't see any explanation or name for it, but I thought it was interesting.

My heart is grateful for:
the gift of music that's been given to us from the Lord

Dream River Sculpture, Amsterdam, NY

I don't usually like abstracts, but this artwork is just beautiful and I can't resist making photos of it every time I'm in the area.  The sculptor is Dimitar Lukanov, it was created in 2019.  It's stainless steel with beautiful aqua color standing on a base of concrete and it's 32 feet tall.
It's located on the south side of the river in Amsterdam on the Amsterdam Pedestrian Bridge.
It would probably look great against a blue sky. Each time I've been there it's been cloudy but I still think it looks beautiful.

My heart is grateful for:
everyone having a unique vision for art and beauty

Leaves and Grate

When I got out of my car to look for photo ops, I looked down and saw these leaves at the edge of the sewer grate.  Even though they're all brown-toned, I like the composition and the contrast between the leaves and the iron of the grate.

My heart is grateful that:
some of the women from church were able to get together last night to socialize and watch a movie together~~something that hasn't happened in a very long time

Scrappy Quilt

I belong to a group called Quilts for Cops.  We are volunteer quilters who create quilts for wounded police and first responders throughout the country.  The fabric is donated or purchased with funds we raise through raffles, and all the other work on the quilt is done free of charge by members of the group.

These fabrics were already organized for this quilt by another volunteer and I just put it together.  It needs the backing, binding and quilting.  I just finished the top today.  I don't love all the fabrics but I think it came together nicely and once it's quilted I bet it will look great.

My heart is grateful that:
I'm part of this volunteer group that affirms our police and first responders

Colored Disks

There was an area in the local zoo that might have been intended for people to use as a background for their cell phone pics of their children.  I can't think of any other reason for this area.
I just thought it was so pretty with the brightly colored disks.
If my grandkids had been with me today, I definitely would have taken their pics in front of this pretty background.

I'm grateful for:
beautiful colors that decorate our world

Kid's Art

While I was waiting for a meeting to start, I went into my fave coffee shop to wait where it was cooler.  I stepped into a little alcove where I don't usually go and I saw this display on the wall.  How cool is this that they display kid's artwork?

Today I'm grateful for:
keeping up with these posts for 164 days

Looking Up at Colorful Umbrellas

In the town of Safety Harbor, FL, there's an artsy neighborhood.  My friend and I were walking around and came upon this area containing displays and this colorful montage of umbrellas hanging from the ceiling.

An irresistible photo op.

My heart is grateful for:
the fun luncheon I shared with 10 other people from church today

Driftwood

I went to the local lake today and this was the most interesting thing I saw.

Today I'm grateful for:

Shadows

I was walking around downtown today at just the right time of day to capture this beautiful tree shadow on the wall of a business.

I had my grown-up camera with me so it was really fun and easy to get just the right composition.

Ceiling Fan and Flower Print

I decided to take a short lie-down this afternoon and I was mulling over what to take a photo of for my daily post.  I looked up and thought, "well, why not?"

It's not a very exciting image, but I enjoy having a ceiling fan even though I don't use it much and I totally LOVE the grey, white and black flower artwork.

These are pieces of the chess set I borrowed from a friend the other day.  I'm still working on adding funky backgrounds to some images.  I had this driftwood background in my files, so I tried playing around with it for these chess pieces.

Editing was definitely a nightmare and it can't be enlarged too much without seeing the mistakes, but as a small image I think it's kind of interesting.

Every time I practice with a process, I'm hoping I get a little better...and faster.
