Upstairs Exit

Today the temperature was 102, and at 7:40 pm it's still 100.  The weather on my phone shows that it will be 101 tomorrow.  Good grief.

So this is an image from my files.  I'm already way far behind on the photo-a-day project and the heat doesn't make me want to get out and make more images.

Anyway, this building is part of a tourist destination outside of Waco, Texas.  It's not a super-exciting image, but I love the staircase.  Not sure if the upstairs is part of the business, or if it's living quarters.  It was a beautiful day that day.

Entranceway

While I was waiting for my grandkids to arrive for their lesson the other day, I walked around the neighborhood for a few minutes looking for some photo ops.  I've seen this house before but that day I stopped and took a photo of the entrance.  I love the color green and I think the decoration of the vines on each side of the door make the house so inviting.

My heart is grateful for:
simple decor

Alleyway Fire Escape

I'm not sure what this building is but the fire escape is an easy one for egress in the alleyway.  Usually there isn't any trash in the alleys in Abilene, but there's a little in this one under the steps.  It will probably be cleaned in the near future.

Beautiful Artwork

Was this building a bank once upon a time?  The building seems to be abandoned now, but the artwork isn't faded.  It's one of the murals that's on the walking trail of murals around downtown Abilene, Texas.

My heart is grateful for:
beauty among abandoned places

128/366
First Baptist Church

I spent a little time walking around downtown the other day while I was waiting for a friend to have coffee with.  The architecture of this church is beautiful but I've never taken a shot from this angle before.

127/366
Wildflowers

This is not a scene usually seen in Abilene, Texas, but we've had a lot of rain this year.  It's just so simply pretty.

My heart is grateful for:
lots of rain

126/366
Volkswagen

This car has been on top of this building all the years I've been in Abilene.  I'm not sure what the point of it is, unless it's to indicate there's a garage available.  It's cute, but it's difficult to get a good photo of it because there's a tall sign and a tree in front of it.

My heart is grateful that:
I finally got my laptop back from the "hospital" and the repair didn't cost much!

Some of My Favorite Guys

While visiting to celebrate the grandson's graduation from college, this image was made.  Two grandsons, one soon-to-be granddaughter's husband and my son-in-law. All of them so amazing.

My heart is happy for:
family

Tulips and Telephone Pole

While walking down a country road, I saw these pink and white tulips at the base of the telephone pole.  What a great idea.

122/366
Dandelion Fluff

My heart is grateful for:
the visit with my daughter and her family

121/366
American Flag on Shed

I've seen this painted flag several times but I finally decided to walk near it and make an image of it.

My heart is grateful for:
the great country we live in

Another Abandoned Building

Another abandoned building that looks like it must have been a warehouse in the past.

119/366
Abandoned Town Building

One of the towns nearby has several structures that are abandoned or being partly used. While waiting for my family to finish their shopping, I noticed this building and thought it wads interesting.
It must have been beautiful once upon a time.

My heart is grateful for:
blue skies

A long row of mailboxes on a back road somewhere in upstate NY.

My heart is grateful for:

Tiny Home?

Wouldn't this place make a great Tiny Home, right on the edge of a forested area but only 15 minutes from town?  It might be a wee bit too small, but it's tempting.

My heart is grateful for:
possibilities

 Beautiful Girl

This beautiful girl is about 12. She's one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known. There's nothing more that can be said.
She belongs to my daughter.  My daughter says that when this pet passes on she's done with animals.  I don't blame her.  I had pets all the time I was raising my kiddos, and then I was done too.

My heart is grateful for:
wonderful pets

Beautiful Nature

Seen in a back yard of an acquaintance in upstate NY.  How I've missed this...

My heart is grateful for:
the respite of being someplace "green" for a few days

Dream River Sculpture, Amsterdam, NY

I don't usually like abstracts, but this artwork is just beautiful and I can't resist making photos of it every time I'm in the area.  The sculptor is Dimitar Lukanov, it was created in 2019.  It's stainless steel with beautiful aqua color standing on a base of concrete and it's 32 feet tall.
It's located on the south side of the river in Amsterdam on the Amsterdam Pedestrian Bridge.
It would probably look great against a blue sky. Each time I've been there it's been cloudy but I still think it looks beautiful.

My heart is grateful for:
everyone having a unique vision for art and beauty

Yankee Hill Lock, Erie Canal

Yankee Hill Lock is located along the Mohawk River between Tribes Hill and Amsterdam, NY.  It was one of the few with a double lock so that two barges could pass through at the same time going in opposite directions.  To the left of the lock is located the general store seen in the previous post.

112/366
Yankee Hill, Putman's Lock Grocery @ Erie Canal in Tribes Hill

This remnant of the glory days of the Erie Canal between Tribe's Hill and Amsterdam NY is a reminder of the days when there was thriving business along the canal.
This is Putman's Lock Grocery store which boasted living quarters & rooms for rent.  The basement contained a tavern and the upper ground level sold goods needed by workers and travelers.
This is still a popular site for picnickers, small musical performances and those just wanting to be outdoors for a while.  The front faces what was the canal and the rear of the building faces the Mohawk River.

My heart is grateful:
for having the chance to be back where it's green and pretty, even if just for a few days

Railroad Tracks Downtown

After I made some images of the silos in the previous posts, I turned around and saw the railroad tracks.  I love the way the switches look in the foreground.

110/366
Downtown Silos 2

The same silos as the previous post, but a different angle.  The image was made on a Sunday afternoon, so there's no activity happening.  The structure is located in downtown Abilene, Texas.
I pass this location often and finally decided to stop and get some images.  The weather was beautiful, I needed to be outside for a while so I was happy to find this location.

My heart is happy:
for the beautiful weather and the spare time to be outside with no deadline to be elsewhere

109/366
Downtown Silos

Except for the cloudy sky today, the weather was beautiful and I had to get out of the house for a while, so I drove around downtown.  I love this silo structure and as I was going past it I decided to stop and grab some more photos of it.
It looks really good against a blue, blue sky, but I really like the gray steely look of the silos against the cloudy grey sky too.

My heart is grateful:
that I'll be seeing my grandson in a few days.

Coffee Shop

It has been years since I've been able to sit outside a coffee shop drinking my
favorite drink and reading a good book.
I had a meeting to go to this morning and had some spare time before hand so I stopped to get my drink and read.  It was so nice outside and they had a new mug for sale.
It was totally a win/win situation but I wish I had had a little more time to read.

My heart is grateful for:
spur of the moment pleasures

Tornado Warning

Yesterday afternoon there were some tornado warnings.  Fortunately they weren't here in town, but when I went outside to look at the clouds, this is what I saw.
Wow.

My heart is grateful that:
the storm went around town
