Roadside Memorial

Seen along a country road in West Texas.  Looks like a memorial for two construction workers. Boots, gloves, hardhats, flowers, cross.

Foursquare Church

As I was driving around an area of Abilene that I've never been to before, I came across this Foursquare Church.  It's actually quite a bit larger than it looks in this image.  It's a large horseshoe shaped building, but getting the entire structure in a picture wasn't too attractive since a lot of the street/sidewak and sky would be in the photo.  I preferred this composition.

Confederate Flag

My friend and I stopped in the country cemetery and we saw this
Confederate Flag flying at one of the graves.
In all the cemeteries I stopped at I've never seen one of these flags before.

Religious Graffiti

There's an abandoned zoo in Sisco, Texas.  It was active for about 10 years from 1920-1930.  It closed after a couple of animals died and the cause couldn't be determined.

On the zoo property there are several abandoned cabins that were rented out to visitors during the time the zoo was open.  They're small with one or two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and living room with a fireplace.
This graffiti wasn't there the last time I visited the site.
Whoever did the graffiti shouldn't have done it, but it's correct.
   HE IS RISEN!!

Immaculate Conception Church

This Catholic Church is located on the bank of the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks, Alaska.  Constructed in 1904,  it was the first Roman Catholic Church in the interior of Alaska.
The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in April of 1976.

Another Abandoned building

As I was driving a new route home today, I came upon this seemingly abandoned church building.
There's a sign off to the right of the building, but it's empty so I don't even know what denomination it originally was.

My heart is grateful for:
my first day at my new PT job today

Church Steeple in Ohio

While visiting in Ada, Ohio for a couple of days I saw this beautiful church steeple and had to make an image of it.  I love when the trees are bare and you can see things through the branches.

My heart is grateful for:
the trip I was able to take to photograph a friend's wedding

Jesus Carrying the Cross

In the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, NM there are these small sculptures around the perimeter of the sanctuary on the walls.  They're depictions of Christ carrying the cross.  I didn't photograph all of them.  The other one I captured is the first Time Christ Fell.

I'm not Catholic, we don't have these types of sculptures in my Protestant church.  Regardless I think they're beautiful art in a beautiful chapel. This chapel is where The Staircase is located.
The Staircase is an architectural marvel.  I'll post it tomorrow with the amazing history behind its construction.

My heart is grateful today:
for God's grace in my life
