Church in High Key

This is one of the churches in downtown Abilene, Texas.  I don't know the denomination but I think it's a cool structure.

I pulled into a parking area in Coleman, TX in order to check
directions and I saw this sign.
It cracks me up.
I had to get an image of it.

Tree Trunk and Hydrant

One of my photo prompts was Lone Tree.  While I was looking around for such an object, I saw this tree with the fire hydrant in the background.
I just thought the composition was interesting and there are times when I get desperate for an image of some kind.  I like the little touch of orange color in the background.

Antique Rake

On  a ride down a country road, there was an area where there were many pieces of antique equipment on display.  The gate was open so we walked around to look at the equipment.

Concho County Courthouse

This beautiful courthouse is the Concho County Courthouse located in Paint Rock, Texas.  I'm glad I had the chance to photograph it today, since once the trees leaf out, this view of the building wouldn't be possible.
The building was built in 1886 and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.  It was built of limestone in the Second Empire Style.

Large Pond

Texas trivia:
There is only ONE natural lake in Texas but this is not it.
Although there are over 7,000 lakes in the state, only Caddo Lake in east Texas is natural.

In comparison, NY state has over 7,000 natural fresh water lakes.
Alaska has 3,197 named lakes and about 3 million un-named lakes.

A friend and I took a photo field trip today.  We were driving down a service road along one of the main highways looking for a photo op.  We stopped to photograph something else, but when I turned around I saw this partially frozen pond.  The temp was about 36 today, but in the previous days it had been in the teens and I guess it wasn't warm enough today to melt all the surface ice.

Lone Tree

My photo club assigned topic for Jan was Lone Tree.  It was difficult to find a "lone" tree that looked interesting, so I just scrapped the topic and entered other photos.
The Jan meeting was canceled for some reason that didn't make sense to me and rescheduled for another month, so I guess I have another chance to enter that topic.  While walking around downtown Fairbanks, I saw this tree, and others, that were separated enough from other foliage to fit the topic.
I thought this tree looked beautiful, so I tried to capture it, but there are still buildings and cars showing.
Really......it's just a snow covered fir tree, nothing special so I'm not sure I'll enter it.
I just think it's pretty against the gorgeous blue sky on a cold winter day.

Businessman on Overpass

It was another beautiful day~~up to 55 degrees.  I went to the Y again this morning and was exhausted when I got home.  I thought I'd just hang out in the house, but after resting I decided I needed to get out and enjoy the weather.
I went to town, yet again.  As I walked past this overpass that goes from one office building to another across a street, I saw this man walking and quickly composed to get this image.
Not the best image, but I like it.

Minimalist lighting

While I was in the park trying to decide what images to make, I turned around and saw the building across the street with this single strand of lights across the roof area.  There are no other lights or decorations on the building. I wonder how many people actually look up to see the lights?
As I'm getting older I'm becoming more minimalist, so I really appreciate the simplistic effort of this building decorated for the holiday season.

Window and View

The other day my daughter, grandkids and I went to the abandoned Cisco Zoo.  While I was standing in one of the deserted cabins I looked out the window and saw this view.  I thought it was interesting, so I photographed the scene through the window space.

Frosty and His Family

I went to town today just before dusk hoping to find some Christmas photo ops and I saw this fun display of Frosty and his family in one of the parks.  Many of the trees were wrapped with colored lights.

Today I retrieved two quilts that were recently finished from the quilter so now I have to put the binding on them.  One is for my granddaughter who will be two this spring and the other is an oversized lap quilt for me.  I'll be happy when they're finished.

It was late in the afternoon when I got this image, so the tree is partially sun-lit and partially in shadow.

Apartment Building

This building in downtown Abilene was once a motel, but it's now an apartment building. There's a beautiful lobby and the lower level has public shops.

Old Overhead Door

During my walk downtown today I saw this door, which is part of an abandoned building.  It looks like it used to have a loading dock.  I don't know what this building once was or what it's being used for now.
I just like the way it looks.

Retro Tombstone

I pulled into a cemetery looking for something interesting to photograph and I came across this retro tombstone propped against a gnarly tree trunk.
The letters are very hard to read but it looks like the last date is 1896.

Urban House

I met my daughter at the location for the grandkid's lesson today but I got there early so I grabbed my camera and walked a block or two down the street.  I saw this sweet house. I couldn't resist taking a photo of it.  It looks so comfortable and homey.

Another trip back to the Creamery on the edge of Fairbanks.  It was another spectacularly beautiful day and I managed to get another perspective on the visitor's center.

My heart is grateful for:
the salmon dinner I had last night when we all went out to celebrate a delayed Father's Day
