Tiled Walkway

This tiled walkway leads from the sidewalk to the front doors of an abandoned church in downtown Abilene, Texas.  Some of the tile has been displaced, but otherwise it in good condition. It must have been really beautiful in its prime.

Reflectors

On Sunday afternoon, part of downtown is totally deserted.  I was walking around, looking for some photo ops for the prompt of "repeating patterns" when I looked down and saw these reflectors.  There were lots of them all in a cluster~~wonder why?

I saw this wooden flag on a fence as I was driving down a side road somewhere outside Abilene, Texas.

A Pretty Painting on a Brick Wall

I think I was in Colorado City when I saw this flower painting on the outside of one of the businesses.
It filled the entire wall and had some words, but I just wanted to show the flowers.

Once Upon a Convenience Store

This sign was on a corner in front of an abandoned gas station and convenience store.
It must have been a fairly thriving business at one time.
Another sad and forgotten place in rural Texas.

Abstract Artwork

I came across this abstract piece of artwork as I was walking around downtown the other day in the area where there are many reception venues.
I don't really like abstract art, but this is so colorful and it's right at the gate of the venue so everyone on the street can see it as can anyone entering for an event.

Painted Fire hydrant

A red and green painted fire hydrant in downtown Abilene.
There are green paint drops on the sidewalk from when the hydrant was being painted.

Gnome on Wall

It was a stunningly beautiful day today.  The temp hovered around 82 and the humidity was about 32.  The sun was shining and there was a little breeze.

After I went to the grandkid's lesson this afternoon, I drove around looking for some photo ops.  I finally parked the car and got out to walk around with my camera, and I found this little single layer of brick wall in between two larger brick walls.  I almost missed the gnome painting.
How cute is this?

Abandoned School Building

This abandoned building is located in Stamford, Texas.  It looks like it was a school building once upon a time, but the plaque above the door had the name
"Brotherly Love Bible Mission".
It might have morphed into a mission.  There were no other identifiers on or near the property to say what the structure had been.
I can just imagine, in my mind's eye, students walking up those stairs to attend classes at one time.  I could be completely wrong, but imagination is a good thing.

Confederate Flag

My friend and I stopped in the country cemetery and we saw this
Confederate Flag flying at one of the graves.
In all the cemeteries I stopped at I've never seen one of these flags before.

Clean alleyway

While walking around downtown today to find a photo op, I passed through this amazingly clean alleyway and decided to grab a photo of it.
There's often graffiti on the walls, but seldom is there trash on the ground.

Curbside

This is the ONLY good thing to have come out of the covid debacle.  If stores already didn't offer curbside shopping, they began during the alleged pandemic.
I HATE to shop.  Always have and always will, so this curbside shopping is just the thing.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I remember reading the book "1984" in 1964 and thinking
1) those things could never happen and
2) 1984 was a long way away
I was so, so wrong on both counts.

Little did I know that 2025 would be here in a blink of an eye.

One photo down for my photo a day.  Only 364 more to go.

This display of large ornaments is situated outside a childcare center.  Simplicity at its best.

Painted Wall

One of the alleyways in downtown Abilene is newly painted with abstract wall art.  I'm not a fan of abstract, but the colors are beautiful and there are some curves and designs on other parts of the wall.  This wall art makes the alleyway much more attractive.
