Christmas Parade

Every year Abilene holds their Christmas Parade the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  This was huge one.  It lasted, from the first entry to the last, about 1 hour and 50 minutes.  It was very mild that night and there were a lot of people still there for the entire parade.

It's brutal taking pics with a real camera in the dark.  After about 7 tries, I put the camera away and just watched the parade. This is the only image I took that was even remotely worth posting.  I always wonder why the event planners think the parade is better in the dark.

My heart is grateful for:
the moderate weather after the brutal summer we had

Six White Horses

Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX has a club (if that's what it's called) whose members care for and ride six white horses in parades, rodeos and other community activities both local and in towns around Abilene.  From the little I've heard about this group, there are about 20 horses that are rotated for the different rides and the group of girls in the club also rotate as the riders.

They are iconic for the local parades.
This parade is the kick-off event for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo that began this week.

I'm grateful for:
God's beautiful creatures

The Beginning of the Parade

Abilene hosts a parade each year celebrating CALF (Children's Art and Literacy Festival) that takes place mid-June.  The town is know as the Storybook Capital of America with storybook statues in two of the downtown parks.

It's a big deal for the town.  There was a huge turn-out for the parade.

My heart is grateful today:
that I walked over 12,000 steps today
