Steps to the Basement

Along the back walkway of some building in downtown Abilene, Texas is this staircase going down into the lower floor of a building.  It doesn't seem to be an actual basement so it would be interesting to get inside and see what it actually is.

Church in High Key

This is one of the churches in downtown Abilene, Texas.  I don't know the denomination but I think it's a cool structure.

Indian and War Hawk

This sculpture, Sacred Wind, of an Indian and a War Hawk is located on the campus of McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.  In 2011 the War Hawk became the new mascot of the school.
The hawk resting on the Indian's shoulder shows the cooperative relationship between the plains Indians and the hawk that represents the wind.

Oil Tanks on Dirt Road

The weather was incredibly beautiful today.  It was sunny and only about 68 degrees.
I took a drive on some back roads of a small town not too far from here and
came across these oil tanks.
Nothing super exciting, but it was good to get out even if this was the only subject I managed to find to photograph.

Sign at Zoo

This afternoon my daughter/grandkids and I went to the Cisco Zoo for an outing.  The weather was beautiful (maybe a little warm).  The Zoo was in operation between 1920-1930 so now there's just walking trails and the remains of animal enclosures along with several abandoned cabins that were rented to people wanting to stay on the grounds of the zoo property.
We spent time walking the trails on the property at the opposite end from where the animal enclosures are.  Obviously, there's a Balancing Rock nearby.  I got a laugh out of the sign.
The kiddos had a great time and they were very sad when we said it was time to leave.

BW Abandoned Business

In a small town in Texas there's a single block where the business are abandoned and in bad disrepair.
This building had an upstairs but there's no evidence of the 2nd floor left except the indication on the wall.

Drinking Soda

I was wandering around a part of town I don't usually go to with a friend and we came upon a barely used Mexican restaurant.  It had this poster on one of the outside walls.  It's obviously old and worn, but I love the faded look of it.

Oil Drill

It's not easy to get close enough to an oil drill to get a good photo~~I don't have a long enough lens, but this one was pretty close to the fence and I was thrilled to get this close.

Steps and Shadows

This flight of steps leads to an upper level brewery in downtown Abilene.
I was intrigued by the shadows on the steps.

Urban structure

This structure contained a restaurant until it recently relocated to another space in downtown Abilene, TX. I haven't seen the new location so I don't know if there's an outside eating space as there was here.
The weather has been much more tolerable although still warm and it was almost pleasant being outside and walking around after dealing with temps in the high 100s and up to 113 for a while.

Stone Marker

This is one of the three markers indicating the site of the Belle Plaine College that existed in the late 1800s just a short distance down the road.

The marker says there were up to 300 students enrolled.  Difficult to imagine.

Abandoned home in very small town, West Texas.  Off to the right of the image, in what must have been a driveway at one time, was a car.  My friend said it wasn't too old, it had a license plate on the front bumper, but the registration had expired about 4 years ago.

Do people actually just walk out of a home, leave their car and never return?
I can't wrap my brain around that.

Almost Black and White

There's a ballet school in town and this artwork is on the outside of the building.  It's a beautiful graphic with just a touch of red in the hair.

My heart is grateful for:

Farmer's Market

Every Wed evening and Sat morning throughout the summer, there's a Farmer's Market.  These are some random people walking around.  It was a beautiful day. We spent about an hour checking out all the booths.
There were some photographers there selling their images.  Some were beautiful, some were average. I often wonder how much stock the sellers much have to do the Farmer's Market circuit~~and where do they store it all after the season?

My heart is grateful that:
my grand baby had a good report from his visit with the midwife
