Three Amigos

Yesterday I took a ride to Merkel because 1) I needed to go someplace to photograph where I haven't been lately and 2) the weather was so beautiful I needed to get out of my house.
I've been to Merkel before, but I never walked through the main part of the small town.
Yesterday I saw this sculpture of these three Mexicans playing instruments perched on the roof of a Mexican restaurant.  How cute.
So that makes 301 photos...65 photos short of a photo-a-day for the year.
I'm going to try again in 2025.
There will probably be many more mundane images since I don't even know where to go anymore to find new subjects.

Anyway...tonight is
New Year's Eve.
Another year has passed.
I would recap my year, but it's been seriously boring although AMAZINGLY Blessed.
I'm looking forward to what the Lord has in store for me for the coming year(s).

The Mill Restaurant

One of the buildings on the edge of downtown is an old mill structure that's been transformed into a popular destination restaurant.  It's a real interesting structure and it's always tempting to try to get a different image of it.
I've never eaten there but I know people who have and they say the food is really good.

The Mill Bar & Restaurant

I posted a photo of this venue before, but this is a different vantage point.  I love the way they left the outside of the building looking so retro.  I hear the inside is nice and the food is good.

My heart is grateful that:
I'll be seeing my daughter/son in law who live out of state soon as we'll have a weekend together with the daughter who lives near me.  A mini-reunion

The Mill

This structure was, once upon a time, a flour mill that helped bring financial resources to Abilene, TX. Currently the lower level is a very popular Wine and Event Center.

My heart is grateful that:
my pregnant daughter-in-law is feeling better

Restaurant Sign

I've been downtown so many times and N.E.V.E.R thought of taking a photo of this sign.  I guess I've just never looked "up" when passing this place.  I finally did and how cool is the sign?

My heart is grateful for:
how busy I was today in spite of the cold weather

Back to Haleiwa

Okay, okay, so I'm in a rut. Haleiwa, turtles, turtles, Haleiwa. But they're irresistible. Yesterday Jackie and I went to Haleiwa, just for something to do. Then we headed up to the beach. Once again, no turtles for her to see, so we hung around for the sunset. It wasn't spectacular, but nice and it gave her something to practice on. Of course, just being on the beach at sunset was spectacular in itself!

Then, yep, you guessed it, back to Haleiwa for a light dinner. We decided to go to Cholo's--much more on that in my post for today. (this is my post for yesterday, Sunday) When we got our table outside, I decided to take a few shots to show Jackie the zooming technique. So I pointed my camera inside the restaurant and this is the result. The only one that I like, but I'm happy with it.

Then, instead of dessert, we went over to the Coffee Gallery and while Jackie was ordering, I started playing around with the different scenes in the store. It was dark by then, so the shutter speed was very slow, but I did manage to get a couple of images I like.

Another sign I love. I just might take Phil's suggestion and make a collage of all the funky signs I'm finding. I know a few people in NY who would probably love to have this sign in their house, or on their garage door. Fun!

So come back later. Cholo's will be the main topic. I'm headed out the door right now to drive up there. We got permission to go in before they open, so we can photograph with our tripods without interfering with their customers.
