Yet Another Coffee Shop

For some reason we stopped at a different coffee stand today.  My drink was almost as good as our first choice one, and it was right on the way home so we didn't have to go out of the way.

Aurora Borealis

On the way home tonight from Bible Study, we saw this beautiful Aurora Borealis.  We stopped along the way and I got some images with my phone which weren't very good, but when we got to the house I grabbed my good camera to make some images.

This is just hand-held, so it isn't as sharp as it could be, but it's beautiful just the same.

Snow Covered Bridge

This snow covered bridge crosses the Chena River in Fairbanks, Ak and it'd adorned with flags along it's route.

Sunflower Mural

This beautiful sunflower mural is painted on the outside of a business in a small town in Central Texas.  

Definitely a bright spot in the town.

Tree with Snow

It's +2 degrees right now and overcast.  According to the forecast, it's supposed to be +30 tomorrow.  

Hopefully I can get out and take some photos in town. 

This tree is right outside my window, so very easy to grab an image.  

It gets light outside about 10 am and gets dark around 4:30 pm.

Lots of Snow

It's -30.  The air is dry.  The scenery is beautiful.

Dr Pepper artwork

In one of the small towns in central Texas, this Dr Pepper artwork is painted on one of the walls of a business.

Dr Pepper is a Texas thing.

Playhouse in Snow

Looking out of the Fairbanks Public Library window into their yard where there's a playhouse for the children.  

Today it's -30 but in a few days it's going to be above zero. Weird winter weather.

Winter Morning

It was 11 am when this image was made.  The sun rises around 10:30 am and sets around 3:30 pm during the winter in Alaska.  

People love living in Alaska.  I don't know why.

Snowman picture location

We were walking around a town called Desdemona a couple of days before Christmas and we came across this snowman where you can get your photo taken.  It was so cute. 

There were no folks walking around~~maybe it was too close to dinner time.

The temp was about 75.  I LOVE warm temps for Christmas.

Side Entrance to Church

Wandering around the outskirts of Stephenville, we came across this side entrance to the

First United Methodist Church.  It faces a large parking lot and it has a decorative design along the wall.

Downtown Painting

Downtown Abilene has just finished refurbishing the streets and sidewalks of one of its main streets.

My favorite coffee shop has also recently remodeled a little inside.  One of the additions they've added is this beautiful painting of their shop and the street on which it lives. 

What a great addition to the decor of the shop.

Another Vacant Building

It was a late Sunday afternoon when I was walking around this area, so there are no cars or even foot traffic.  Just another vacant building.  

I always wonder who's paying the taxes on these empty structures?

Just for comparison, it was probably a high of 73 here in Abilene today, 

and -6 in Fairbanks, Ak.  Last week it was about 80 in Abilene and -40 in Fairbanks.  Yikes.

Carpenter' Building

I've often walked past this building in downtown Abilene but I guess I never thought of looking up and getting this kind of image.  It looks like the upper stories are vacant, but there were some men working on the lowest floor doing some kind of construction.  It's a beautiful structure.

Wall Art Design

I think we were in a town called Desdemona when we saw this gorgeous wall art.  The artist is Jessica Lochbaum (@artjesstudio).

I often wonder if these artists make any money doing their art for other projects.

War Memorial

In downtown Abilene, the courthouse has this beautiful memorial outside the front door.  A soldier and an eagle.  As you walk through the display, you can see the names of the wars that have been fought that Abileneans have been part of.  

I never really examined the memorial so closely before.

Back Door Entrance

New Year's Day.

The streets downtown were deserted.  I walked around some areas I don't usually bother with and I saw this back door in an alleyway. 

I don't know what the actual business is, but other than the closed door and boarded up windowNot  there's  no way for light to get into the back side of the business.

Not a very exciting beginning of a 365 photo-a-day self-challenge but it is what it is.
